So here's the scenario:

I just setup an online stock brokerage account to day-trade. The java-based window in-which I view the streaming quotes from freezes on me from time to time. I called their customer support and they told me to use port 443. I don't know how to add/use/change this port. Can anyone help me?

Some tech specs on my end are:
OSX 10.4.11
ISP: Comcast Cable
Router: Airport Extreme "mushroom" (updated)
Browser: Firefox 2.0.0.11 / Safari 3.0.4
Java 5

Thank you in advance!

Do you connect by typing in an url? If so add the port number to the URL after a colon. e.g. http://www.yoururl.com:443/blah/blah/blah.html

I access my account by logging on through the url, but once in, I launch the java applet by clicking a link which lets me access the streaming quotes. I tried your suggestion and it brought me to a "404 page not found" page.

Also, support told me the change will have to be with my router settings.

You don't have to do anything with the router settings.

Port 443 is simply HTTPS.

Just use httpS://you.url.goes.here

Remember that "S". It means secure HTTP, which is automatically transmitted via port 443.
