Saw this on the internet and thought it interesting to post. MBA M1 at the top of the pile.

If you look at the vertical dimensions of those ports, you'll see they had to successively eliminate the tallest ones as the cases got thinner. For instance, counting from the bottom:

To go from #2 to #3, they had to ditch the ethernet port.

To go from #3 to #4, they had to ditch USB-A.

Almost all of those are supported natively via Thunderbolt (or baked into USB C).

I put the adapter in the end of the cable, tape it so it’s just a longer cable for all intents and purposes, and then go on with my life.

Could we use more Thunderbolt ports? Sure. But the bandwidth provided over it means a hub with all of the devices I use can essentially be connected with a single cable. 🤷‍♂️

I took that as a net positive. My first Mac laptop was a 2012 MBA. I owned the various mini-display port adaptors for VGA and HDMI and I never looked back. For me, there is no price I won't pay to get a device which is as thin and as light as possible. :)
