Port to AT&T on 7/3 from Sprint, Eligible for $199 iPhone on the 11th?

For various reasons I need to have completed my port from Sprint to AT&T by the 4th. If I port to AT&T tomorrow, the 3rd, and buy a new phone, can I return it and purchase the iPhone on the 11th and still pay $199/$299?

You should really ask an AT&T rep.

Ask AT&T about porting your number to a "Go Phone" account, this way your phone number is ported to AT&T, and then you can just go in and buy the 3G iPhone on the 11th and upgrade your plan...(Check with AT&T and find out if that's do-able).

When I went in for the credit check yesterday, the guy tried to get me to set up service, and port my number to a free phone. He said that I could just return the phone and get the iPhone 3G on the 11th.

I was tempted for a second, but didn't feel right getting a phone with the intent to return it later. Plus, I can't see how returning a phone on the 11th would be any faster than setting up new service.
