portable CD player

I have a portable CD player that connects via usb to my iMac have not used it for a while (pre catalina)today I tried to use it but got no joy light on the fromt comes on and the usual wiring sound then nothing does not show on the desk top tried different music cd's but no joy, has it died a death or is catalina the problem.Grasping at straws .
