I recently purchased a WD 320 GB my passport studio. It arrived and I unpackaged etc.

I then plugged it in using the FW800 port and decided I'd try and copy a large file to the drive to test speeds. Initially I tried to copy from my old WD elements drive which was running off the usb 2.0

It copied for a long while then completely froze my laptop. This happened on several occasions during transfers. I also had the drive fall asleep and 'unsafely' remove itself without any initiation from me.

I decided I would reformat and try again. Instead of copying from the elements drive I did it to my main drive and then to the passport drive. Once again errors occured.

The drive came from a amazon seller and to be honest it looked used.

Can anyone restore any faith in this drive or recommend me another with similar specs.

Those are the best bus powered portable drives/enclosures available IMO. :apple:
