Anyone else notice that portable hard drives have almost doubled in price? In Sept 2011 I bought a 1tb WD port hard drive usb 3.0 for 99$ (no sale) and the same in Jan 2012. Now they're almost $200.

I know hard drive supplies are tightening but dang this sucks.

Half of the reason is tightening supplies/supply and demand, the other half in undoubtably corporate greed over a natural disaster. This is my personal opinion and I have no proof. But it's big business, chances are, I'm somewhat right.

I don't necessarily agree with that. Here is a Toshiba 1TB USB 3.0 portable hard drive for $119.99

Most hard drives for that matter haven't seen a price hike. Only a select few models.

mostly the WD's from what I've seen. The seagate's are close enough now that it's a wash. Still, while the 2.5 goflex is fine, the 3.5 has tons of issues and is almost worth paying more for the WD greens if they actually work better
