Hello everyone. I have a base M4 Mini with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It has spent 99% of its life at my desk connected to a 4k 27in monitor. I would like to take advantage of the M4 mini’s size and bring it with me more. My iPad mini is a bit small to be a main monitor, so I would rather get a portable monitor. I don’t have a huge budget right now, and I would prefer to spend less than $150.

I was looking at the Acer 15.6” PM161Q since it is a reputable brand and only $84 at my local Walmart. 60hz is fine, but I’m not sure about the 1080p full hd resolution. Would it look alright?

If you want to take a chance on some no-name monitors with high ratings on Amazon, there are several 4K monitors in that size for very close to your budget- I see 5 below $200 on the first page as I type this (just one example of several- as I write this, that one has a $50 coupon offer which would get it to your budget amount). You might want to check those out, read reviews, etc. At that fairly small amount of cost, it might be worth taking a chance for so much more resolution.

Picked up a UPERFECT Truely 4K Computer Monitor, 15.6" UHD FreeSync to work remote while on travel. So far it is doing a great job. Works with my Chromebook, Mac and work laptop.

I need it primarily as a second display for my Windows 11 work laptop. Default scaling on the Mac is great. Recommended scaling at 300% made everything too large on Windows. I found 225% to be just right for maximizing real estate and still maintaining readable fonts. 200% seems best on my HP Chromebook.

That’s great. If I ever start traveling or working on the Mac outside of my home, I would probably look into a monitor like yours. But for now, I can do most stuff on my iPad Mini 6 alright. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The Acer 15.6” PM161Q has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 according to the Acer website.

I have a ThinkVision 15.6 inch Portable Monitor - M15, which has the same 1920 x 1080 as that Acer one. My Lenovo one looks fine to me, so I think that Acer one would be fine too.

Just take your current monitor with you if you travel by car. Will be by far the best experience and result in zero friction for your workflow.
