Portable Time Capsule

Does n e one else think that Apple should release a portable external hardrive and that their macbook event a couple of months ago would have been a great time to announce it.

There are plenty of portable externals you can get, and some may even go well with Apple's current Mac line. Why would Apple need to release one? Or do you mean they should release a portable HDD/router combo?

Like a Time Capsule Express? 1.8" HD with 802.11N and Airtunes? Maybe, but there is really no need right now.

Wouldn't happen. The capacity of the HDD wouldn't make it feasible to use for backing up anything. The price would be outrageous too.

If they used a 2.5" HDD it might work, but it still wouldn't be a very effective solution. You're better off carrying an external for portable backups anyway IMO.

Why would Apple need to release one?

Because some people want to spend $300 for a white box with an Apple logo on it when they could get the same box sans logo for $100. What a silly question.
