i was looking for a place which offer's free shipping/no tax to New York and came across protableone.com , there prices looks decent .. and they are authorize resellers .. has any one heard of them ?

I reviewed one of their notebooks for notebookreview.com about 7-8 years ago. It was very nice.

They seem to be well regarded in the notebookreview.com forums - last time I looked was a few years ago.

They re-sell re-brand Asus and other ODM notebooks.

I would research them at NBR as it has way more traffic.

Isn't it an amazing coincidence that the first three replies are from users who have joined the community on May 3, 2011 (aka. today)? Didn't think so.

I purchased an MSI Wind from them a couple years ago, from what i remember shipping was quick, and the netbook worked as promised, though those first three replies would make me think twice about ordering from them now.

Does Amazon.com charge tax to New York? IF not, they usually have pretty decent prices, and if you sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime you can have it overnighted for $3.99, free 2 day shipping

Too much of a coincidence that 4 newbies that joined today and only have one post, post on this topic ...

Hate to say this but there are a lot of uninformed dorks on this site with matters they know nothing about. An intelligent person would realize they have an A+ rating through BBB (oooh know what the BBB is?). I ordered a new MBP from them and they have been nothing but great. Paid less than an educational discount with no shipping or tax. Actually got another 2% off with a wire transfer (no credit card charges for them). Scott has helped me and has been nothing but great.

My advice is to do your research before you start spewing unintelligent B.S. in a post.

Ratings from the BBB are no longer what they once were. Even if you get a bad rating you can make a "contribution" to BBB and they will upgrade you to A+.

Still, the number of newbies making first and only post in favor of a company I've never heard of makes me think they are shills for whoever runs portableone.com. Any newbie whose first post is to praise something dubious surely shows they lack credibility.

Aw, c'mon! They obviously know what they're talking about!:
I'm a new MBP user as well. ... I'm wondering what people use to clean the computers registry and keep it running fast?

I was just looking at P1 to order something and googled this thread. They have good prices, but this thread is a bit discouraging no? :D

Not sure about the schill factor here, but I can tell you I have purchased from PortableOne before. It was a Fujitsu laptop and the transaction was smooth and product shipped quick and perfectly. I would buy from them again!

can any one share there recent experience with portableone.com , they have better princes then most place still no one talk about them there.. I am in market to buy a laptop but not sure if i should order from them?

interesting thing about the supposed "shills" on this thread saying they've been dealing with portableone.com for 5+ years.

They weren't that name before. They used to be laptopsinc.com

Hello - No, PortableOne.com does not collect NY Sales Tax. We only have one location in Pleasanton, CA and therefore, we are only required to collect California state sales tax.

Greetings all.
This is long overdue, but we’d like to finally set the record straight.
Portable One is a small, family owned business in Pleasanton CA. We advertise very little; we rely heavily on word of mouth referrals and repeat business; and with that we’ve been growing like crazy. Every day, our entire team works hard to exceed our customer’s expectations. If you call us during business hours, we’ll answer. If you email us, you’ll almost always hear back within two business hours. If you chat with us on our website, you won’t get an outsourced ‘professional chatter’ who can’t help you beyond their given script. Please, don’t just take my word for it, read our customer’s appreciation of our services for yourself. http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Portable_One_Inc

Yes, we are indeed an Apple Authorized Reseller. You can verify that here: https://locate.apple.com/sales/?pt=all&lat=37.6903866&lon=-121.8849253

Yes, about 7 years ago we changed our name from Laptops, Inc. to Portable One, Inc. - we do not hide that. And over the years, we have moved from San Jose, CA to Morgan Hill, CA to our current location in Pleasanton, CA.

Best Regards,
Scott@PortableOne.com
