Apple once again have changed the movie artwork format in TV app and once again have not changed it on TVOS! So now I have portrait boxes with tiny landscape images and the hideous blur they add to fill the space on TV app. As all my content (1000s of items) is manually added I will once again have to manually update them however if I do that then the artwork on TVOS will have tiny portrait images inside the landscape boxes. So no matter what either the TV app looks horrendous or TVOS library looks horrendous.

I agree, it's a complete mess. However on balance I think I would rather put-up with the ugly look on my Mac and have my Apple TV displays looking okay. I don't download Betas and so this came as a complete shock to me yesterday when I installed Tahoe. Hopefully Apple will fix this in a future OS update.

To me, the worst is not having the movie or TV Show title anymore. I need to distinguish the movies by their cover. Is there any way to display the movie title in this view?

Pure idiocy. I can't believe the TVOS and MacOS teams didn't bother to find a solution to this mismatch. What was wrong with the landscape artwork?

I'm in the same boat. I did notice that on the Apple TV box, the widescreen artwork is used properly and it pretty much looks exactly like before the tvOS 26 update. There is a setting in tvOS 26 that allows you to force a specific artwork style:

Settings => Apps => Computers

The default setting is Auto, but you can specify to forced the 2:3 or 16:9 style.

There doesn't appear to be any equivalent setting in macOS 26, so it looks like you are forced to browse using this garbage format with blurred bars above and below each 16:9 artwork.

Within the TV.app, if you have playlists that contain movies, the 16:9 artwork will display correctly when viewing the playlist. However, the cover art for the whole playlist which is really the first 4 titles from the list now shows as a 2:3 image with 4 of the 16:9's and the blurring effect. What a mess (see attached).

I'm late to the party here but I couldn't agree more! What a mess is right. I'm not sure if Apple just wants us all to be watching movies on our phones? Why change artwork into portrait setting when most of us watch movies on a landscape 16x9 TV. But in the end Apple make a decision one way or another! Is this the future of cinema? I hope not!
