One of the reasons I bought the X was because of the dual camera and portrait mode. I passed on all the previous PLUS models because they were too big, but the X is only a silly bit bigger than the regular model.

In all the road shows, they show pictures taken in portrait mode with the back ground blacked out like a professional portrait and I can't figure out how to do that. I assume there's no special photo app for tis purposes or it would have been included in the iOS.

Can anyone point me to a link that explains how to do this?

Thanks

In the camera app, change from Photo to Portrait
There is a slider at the bottom to change from natural light to other choices
I think stage light might be what you are looking for

Change to portrait mode in the stock camera app and select stage light. The background doesn’t get blacked out until after the picture is taken.

Thanks! Finally figured it out. Didn't realize it only happens when the subject is a certain fixed distance from phone. Up to now, I've been too far away to "trigger" it...
