Portrait mode Sidecar with Sequoia

Has anyone managed to get Sidecar in portrait mode without using external apps, as described here:

Apple has finally updated Sidecar to allow you to extend your Mac screen onto an iPad when it's in portrait, not just landscape. For now, though, it's fiddly, but here's how to do it.

I have the stable 15.2 and 18.2 on Mac and iPad, but can't get this to work at all. Has anyone been successful?

I can't get it to work in portrait mode - macOS 15.3.1 and iPadOS 18.3.1
