POS antenna or crappy cell service??

I have a iPhone 4 and seem to have no end of crappy reception.
After many calls to the supplier (Rogers in Ontario) they say it is the phone. I, of course am not so sure.
I get constant errors like "could not activate cellular data network" or "cannot open page" or "cannot send mail" etc etc.
The thing is I am showing 2 or 3 bars and 3g when this happens.
I am thinking if the internal antenna is the problem I would not show decent bars and 3g.
Safari is not slow...it just stops...all the effing time...again while showing decent service.
This POS is my ONLY source of internet as I use it to tether to my laptop.
Needless to say it is a pain...dial up would be better...seriously it would.
Any advice or similar experience?

Sounds like your phone needs a replacement.

It's the phone. Get a 4S if you cannot wait for the upcoming model. The 4S has the bugs worked out.

I forgot to add that this is a fairly new problem. The phone used to work fine in this location, for the first year I was happy.

Can the antenna all of a sudden just fail?
