Didn't know where to ask this question at. But I've tried to use a couple of sites that link to secure servers and when I try to get onto them the browser (Safari and IE) come to a halt and give me a "Posix error 60".

At first I thought it was Safari, but after trying IE, I know it can't be that. Has anyone ever experienced this? Do you know how to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks from a mac newbie.

I am also experiencing this problem. However, it only occurs when I attempt to reach a secure site while using our company's MS-Proxy server. If I use Mozilla or Camino, I can get thru. I believe that the problem lies somewhere in the System Prefs for Jaguar, since both IE and Safari use them, whereas Mozilla and Camino do not. I have not yet loaded Panther to know if it solves this issue.

Please let me know if you come up with a resolution.

I have a similar problem with posix errors but mine is posix error 54. I have this trouble on almost every site I visit but only in Safari can view the Activity window to see what the trouble is/was. I have to hit Command+. to stop loading the page which often lets me in but the graphics are never fully loaded. I have hang ups with the sites trying to reach "ads/doubleclick.net" as well. I would love any advice someone could give. What used to be quick and easy loading of websites has now become as slow (or slower) than when I had dial-up!

Finally! Found some people with the same problem!

For me, it's secure sites through a Squid proxy, and only with Safari. Other browsers work fine.

Someone else here was using a Knoppix CD, and appeared to be having the same problem with Konquerer in KDE. Since Safari is based on that browser, I assumed the problem was in the core of the code. However, I've since used Konquerer on another computer here, and it worked fine.

Surely this is a known problem to Apple by now.

"Posix error 60" when trying to load gmail

I too was having problems loading into a site and getting the "Posix error 60".

At work I am using an eMac running 10.2.8 and usually use Safari 1.0.3 (v85.8.1). I have had problems getting into my Netscape mail account for over a year and now can't log into www.gmail.com at work on this computer, although I tried one of our lab iMacs and it loaded my gmail account fine.

I read the gmail faq and it said if you are having problems loading with Sarafi to empty your cache, which I tried, it did not help.

I have also tried using Internet Explorer 5.5.5(5010.1) and Firefox 1.0 and they also will not load my gmail account, although they do not display the posix error 60 message.

This morning I tried an older browswer I had on my computer, Camino 2004051715 (v0.8b) and it DID load my gmail account just fine.

So, it looks like the problem is within the newer broswers I was usuing.
