Background:

iPad 1 that I jailbroke with redsn0w and then accidentally let the power run out. Now the iPad is stuck at the spinning circle loading screen.

Symptoms:
  • Stuck at spinning loading screen
  • iTunes does not recognize the iPad
  • Cannot enter DFU mode

So I've tried to get into DFU and plug into iTunes with no luck. Is this iPad bricked?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hold power and home for 15seconds, should go in to recovery.

Try to kick it out of recovery with TinyUmbrella.

No its not bricked.

Thanks for your response!

I tried that as well and no go. The loading wheel is just frozen on the screen and nothing happens when holding the buttons to go into reset.

The wheel isn't moving, like it's trying to load something, it's just frozen. It will stay like this until the battery dies and then the battery icone will eventually appear that says it needs a charge.

Unfortunately I had somethign like this happen with my old i4.

Your only option is to let the battery drain and recharge.

Unfortunately, I've already tried this. The battery dies, I plug it back and and charge. Right back to frozen startup wheel. :(

I can't get it to load into DFU mode. It just prompts me to Google how to get into DFU mode so I'm assuming the computer dosen't even know the cable is plugged in. :(

Have you googled the procedure for how to boot into DFU mode?

Basically, ensure iPad is turned off.
Plug iPad into PC and hold power button down on iPad
After 3 seconds, hold the HOME button whilst keeping hold of power
After a further 10 seconds, release power whilst still holding home.

Yea I tried it a 100 times. The screen just flashes as it goes through the cycles but the frozen spinning wheel just stays there.

I can't even shut off the iPad, the power button does nothing. It only shuts off after the batter is completely drained from being stuck on...

Are you using the supplied charger with the iPad or the small one? Mine died completely once and the iPhone charger wasn't enough power.

How long have you left it plugged in for before turning it back on?
What was the last thing you did on it before it died? Installe a tweak or anything thru Cydia?

Yep, using the standard (bigger) charger - not the one for an iPhone.

I accidentally let the battery die and now I'm stuck with this seemingly bricked iPad. I know redsn0w says if it ever happens to boot it tethered, but as you can see I can't do that.

I've left it plugged in for days or hours on the multiple times I've tested.

i take it its out of warranty now? you never know the issue may not be with the jailbreak it could be something physically wrong with an internal component. The computer does not even recognize the ipad being hooked up at all? Is it powering on by itself when it gets enough charge or are you turning it on?

Yea it's way out of warranty now :(

You could be right, but I just assumed because of the jailbreak this is why. When I plug it into my MacBook, iTunes does not see it at all.

I was able tog et my hands on a Windows netbook and tried it on there. It says "Cannot connect to Name's iPad because it has a passcode on it"

As for powering on, it just turns on itself as soon as it has enough charge and I can't shut if off either. It just stays on, with the frozen wheel.

Any ideas on what Apple would do/charge if I brought it in?

No idea, but I would love to find out!

I'm guessing since I can't get into DFU mode and iTunes does not recognize the device, I'm probably screwed.

Hoping to get to the Apple store next week to see what they can do.

ended up taking it to the Apple store today and they restored it. Oh well!
