I just bought the 2.1 Logitech Z-2300 set.

The satellite speakers are shielded but the subwoofer is not. It's pretty big, 11'' by 14'' and I'm thinking of placing it below my Mac Pro (only real place for it).

My question is: Is 18 inches enough distance to avoid any magnetic effects on my computer?

I'd be more worried about vibration damage to the hard drives if its actually sitting on the sub.

18" should be plenty of distance. I have my sub sitting next to my computer without problems.

That's potentially a pretty big magnet (depending on the driver) to have that close to your hard drives.

I wouldn't do it. Good luck if you do.
