Can anyone verify if a Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid drive can be made to work in a G5 quad?
I'm slightly concerned about the SATA 1,2,3, issues, and I'm hoping the drive can cope with the G5's older SATA bus.

It'll work. Just try to get the SATA II version. Most SATA III drives that don't have a SATA II mode don't like to work with G5's. If the drive is SATA II and has a SATA I mode, use it for maximum compatibility.

I'm currently running a Corsair Force 3 SATAIII SSD in my G5 Xserve and there's not an issue, but perhaps that's my own dumb luck. I've also got a 1.5TB SATAII drive in there again with no problems. I haven't tried a momentus XT because mine is the boot drive in my MacBook and I haven't been bothered to plug it into my Xserve. I can only say I've not had any hard drive problems at all with my G5.

I had one in mine for about a day (now in the MBP)...It was fine along with the Vertex 2, Agility 3, SATA 3 WD Black, and now the SATA 3 Barracuda's
