come give your thoughts on what we think m4 studio pricing will be :) If these numbers are true then the macmini to studio is only $500 and the studio has more cores and more gpu.

How did I get the $2200 price? Its the price now plus $200 for the 1tb. If the price stays the same maybe its even better?

There was a price increase for upgrading from M3 Pro to M3 Max that started happening last year in the MBP. This has not been reflected into the Mac Studio yet since it is still stuck on the M2 gen. I cannot remember precisely but off the top of my head it was $300 (comparing M3 Max MBP vs M2 Max MBP with the same RAM stepping and SSD amount). The pricing has not changed between M3 Max vs M4 Max (disregarding the increased base RAM).

The Mac Studio pricing is likely to be the same for M4 as it is now for M2.

And yes, it costs £500 to jump from the "Pro" chip with the Mac mini to the "Max" chip with the Studio for exactly the same config with 64GB of memory.

I think it's worth it, but it's not a bargain by any means.

I am afraid of the potentially upcoming Trump tariffs. If they come, I won't upgrade my M1 Studio Max.

I think you need to look at the base price for the lowest M2 Max MBP vs. the lowest M3 Max MBP. The minimum available RAM went from 32GB to 36GB and - for the 16" - the RAM went from 512GB to 1TB. (Everymac.com) The cost went up $100 for 14" and $300 for 16". Basically Apple just put up the price by their typical inflated rates for extra SSD and/or RAM!

So there's a potential $100 increase when the 32GB to 36GB hits the Mac Studio. On the other hand - they increased the base RAM on regular M4 machines without charging. On the other other hand they may not offer the lower-end processor options on the Studio because the price already overlaps with the upgraded M4 Pro Mini...

Basically, I wouldn't like to call it - M2 Max to M4 Max (skipping the M3) is a hefty jump in performance, so Apple could probably get away with a price hike.

Yes there are too many variables to guess. The rather long time skip between the updates also doesn't help. They may limit the BTO options to fewer SKU, or create more, depending on the chip binning / yield logistics and also performance targets etc.

But at least we can use M2 Max > M3 Max MBP to trim down abit: 32 to 36GB came "free", as the M3 Pro 36GB options didn't get a price hike. The price increase looked very much purely for the Max chip alone. Then the base RAM tier increase also only moved the M4 / M4 Pro SKUs (16/18 to 24GB), where the M4 Max MBP still only got 36/48GB as standard SKU with no price change.

So assuming the baseMac Studio still comes with the binned M4 Max variant, the same base RAM as the Max MBP (36GB), and still 512GB SSD, it should get marked up $300. That's my take.

I expect the M4 Mac Studio Max to stay at $1999 with 36GB/512GB. There is likely little to no margin hit for Apple going from 32GB to 36GB that they feel they need to recover at launch and holding the line on price will be seen as "pro customer".

Sadly that'll likely result in a defacto price increase for anyone not in the US. The same thing happened with the M2 Studio, which was a few hundred more than the M1 in Canada, despite the price staying the same in the US.

The USD has been stronger than the CAD for years, the Euro for a year. Apple doesn’t adjust pricing every time the FX market changes. But they will upon new product launches.

Very true, but it’s still effectively a price increase for those of us not in the US market, as we tend to earn in our local currencies.

Apple will introduce the M4 Studio soon. Wonder what else will be updated at the same time.
