I was looking over my ATT bill, and my iPhone data plan says that includes 1500 SMS/MMS messages. This could mean that MMS is coming in the next update!! Just thought I would share this info.

Did it not say this before? I recall seeing this term on my previous cingular bills. The rumor mill gets a bit rediculous around this place.

*GG* in another thread pointed out an article in The Independent that says (along with announcing the UK iPhone), "The iPhone, with its video-messaging, wi-fi connectivity and touch-screen features, was first released in the US on 29 June..."

So hmmm. Sure would be nice. :D

As for video-messaging, I thought this update might update the camera to support video clips. But that also could be just flat wrong.

As for SMS/MMS billing thing, the included messages have always been for SMS/MMS; it's just part of the standard AT&T plans, so if you had an phone of another kind on say the Nation 900 Plan w/ 200 messages included, that would be for SMS or MMS. Doesn't mean no MMS for iPhone today, but doesn't necessarily mean yes.

It's sad when people have to get excited over the possibility that a $400 phone on an expensive and long contract might be able to do MMS

The contract is neither expensive nor long by any other standard contract. I'm sorry but 500/5000 + 1500 SMS + Unlimited data for $77 AFTER TAXES AND FEES. Is outstanding. Who gives a **** about contracts anymore honestly? The iphone is limited to AT&T only anyhow. Apple and the US can't help that your country is regarded as one of the biggest rip off nations on the planet. What are WE imposing tariffs on you?

Jesus, calm down. The fact that it's an expensive modern phone that can't send MMS still stands, regardless of anyone's tariffs, your side of the pond or mine.

Okay, dummy alert!!! What's the difference between SMS and MMS?

SMS is limited to 260 characters of text.

MMS is not limited in text size, allows pictures, music, etc.

The downside is some carriers like to charge more for MMS (not all - on mine for example MMS goes on the data plan so is free).

All modern phones are MMS enabled.. with one exception of course.

Thanks, you musn't be a Man U fan or you wouldn't have replied!!! :)

I bet Im in the very small minority that never, ever sends text messages. Ive always had phones with email capabilty so I never had any need for sms.

SMS text messages on the iPhone are a delight compared to the RAZR I was using before.

hahahahahaaaa.... so true.

"oh please can I use MMS, please.... pretty please, I paid you."

I just want MMS and multi recipient SMS. That's all. I paid enough for it. Do I need to duct tape my Razr to my iPhone so I can get MMS?

Sorry to be picky, it's actually 160 characters.

Luckily, the person I text the most, my girlfriend, also has an iPhone... and iPhone to iPhone texting does not limit the amount of characters.

Just an FYI.

yes, it does limit your characters, but sends them as multiple messages at once so you don't see it happening. check your billing, if you send a longer message, then you will be billed for an extra text message or two, depending on length.

...just FYI so you don't go over on texts.

If they aren't going to grace us with MMS for the iPhone, then the very least they could do is add something useful in the next update like a microwave pizza oven or a remote starter for my car...

I haven't had my iPhone long enough to get my first bill yet, but I would assume that the text line MMS/SMS is pretty standard and didn't change for the iPhone billing, but I haven't gotten my bill yet and don't know.
