possible problem with monitor hinge

So I am not sure if this is simply a design that I never really noticed or not but today when I took out my MBP, I noticed a gap between the bottom of the machine and the hinge that bends with the screen-I noticed that what resides in the gap is what appears to be the motherboard of the machine. I checked another mac at work and it looked the same but I want to make sure that this is normal and that I dont have a problem. The area does not appear to be dented or bent so I do not believe that damage has occured but I wanted to make sure.

can anyone confirm if I have a problem or not?

Yes it's normal; that heat blown by the fan has to come out somehow!
