Just had a thought...
It would be very useful if you could customise the contents of the "Go" menu found throughout the Finder. The possibility of adding apps/utilities or folders (with keyboard shortcuts) would be brilliant! Is there any way of doing so?

I don't think so. Not there anyway.

Many people overlook "Recent Items" under the Apple symbol. There is also a "Recent Folders" under the Go menu. I find these pretty useful.

Also, try Quicksilver. You can map keys combinations to open files to folders.

Well, you can edit /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Menus.nib to remove, change or even add items to any standard menu in Finder. Not sure abote all the codes to add items, though... but if you find those, then it should be fairly easy using Interface Builder (which comes with Developer Tools).

Removing and renaming was pretty easy...

Edit: Remember backup... ;)

It is too bad that the Finder isn't Cocoa (or that Carbon doesn't support input manager services). I have a number of menu modifications for my Cocoa apps (see attached).

Of course there is always Fruit Menu... or you could enable the Classic menu.

Fruit Menu

For those who use Fruit Menu, have there been any conflicts that have resulted? I'd like to see some screen shots illustrating the range of individual customizing that results from using it. Thanks.

I don't normally bother to register on all the forums I read but i thought that this post deserved it. I've been looking for a way to edit (remove) the Go menu from finder for days. You probably wont see this but just wanted to show my appreciation for posting it.

Don't suppose anyone know if this can be done with the Apple Menu??

Hi, I know its been awhile, but I just found this thread. You said what you're describing [above] is pretty easy, mind filling in an amateur tinkerer? thank you in advance!

Is there any other program that a non-developer can get to edit the nib file?
