The string of icons in my desktop menu is tooooooo long. Means Fantastical--the furthest icon to the left--is hidden behind app menus.

Anyone know if there's a way to arrange the order of menulets (are they still called that these days) in Lion?

Simply click hold and drag to whichever order you prefer

System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items. Drag the items within that list to reorder them (top of the list will launch first, so place Fantastical there).

Ahhhh. Took me a couple of passes, not realizing you can only move items down the list, not up. Helped a bit, but the main problem is that there are so many Apple menulets (especially with the addition of the user name on the right end of the menu bar in Lion) that Fantastical is still hidden behind program menus when I launch most software.

Still...noodged it a little bit to the right. Every mm helps. ;)

Yeah, I think that's actually a bug that won't let you just reorder the list however you want, it didn't work that way before. Also, you can try things like changing the user name to simply an icon, which will give you back some space on the menubar.

Also, regarding the Fast User Switching icon, if you don't have multiple users on your computer you can simply disable FUS and remove its icon from menu bar altogether.
