Possible to"desktop mode" screen output to VR headset?

Is it possible to use a VR headset with an iphone or ipad, mirroring what's on-screen? Essentially I want to "mirror desktop" like one would on an x86 computer.

Mixed reviews. Not sure if you can actually control your phone in VR or if it relies on you keeping the phone in the same position
