maybe a stupid question..

I have my iPhone 8 arriving tomorrow, and from what I've seen in videos and endless threads of dislike and errors and me personally liking the looks better of iOS 10, think it would be possible to downgrade a iPhone 8 to iOS 10 till 11 gets its bugs ironed out or am I stuck with it?

The reason you can't is because each device has a minimum firmware it's released with. For these phones it's iOS 11. Just like iOS 10 for the 7 and so on.

Yeah, they wouldn't sign 10.3.3 for the iPhone 8. That'd be really nice though.

I believe 10.3.3 signing will also stop shortly for the 5s, 6, 6s, and 7. I ran back to 10.3.3 myself yesterday before they have a chance to close that gap. It ruined my 5s...

It's not a matter of signing. They could sign it for the 8/8+ but installing it would not mean you could run it.

That's what I meant about minimum firmwares. There will be things in the 8/8+ that require iOS 11 for the device.

That's not really true. The 8 isn't different enough from the 7. I'd bet if you had the right tools and tried to flash 10 onto the 8, it'd work just fine, but be missing some of the new 8-specific functionality.

The 8 is the first device with a Apple gpu. Id be shocked if you got any display out on ios10. Ios doesn't include default drivers and I'm sure imgtech wouldn't work.

Yes there won’t be a version of iOS 10 made for the 8... it’s the same software overall, but each device has a version tailored to it’s specific hardware, to make sure it all works as intended. If there was enough similarity between a 7 and 8 for it to work, it’d be laggy and buggy as hell. It’s got a 6 rather than 4 or 2 core chip, for example

lol i never said theyre going to make 10 for the 8... do you guys like to argue just for the sake of it or what

I know, I was acknowledging that point had already been established earlier and continued on to dispute your assertion that the 7 and 8 are similar enough ‘it’d work just fine’.

that's what they call slippery slope.. or strawman? maybe a slippery strawman in this case. not a very nice way to chat on the web, but oh well thanks anyway

So is imagination tech now completely out the picture then?
I don't think Apple's going to go back to using their GPUs after they made such a big deal of designing their own. I'm sure Apple's GPUs are going to be so much better, but I still admire Imagination and have a lot of respect for them, and kind of feel bad overall for their current post-Apple state.

Then we will have to just disagree as I still think there is stuff that is different enough.

Think about downgrading the 6s+ from iOS 9 to iOS 8 (the OS the 6 launched with). And Apple jumped an entire version number. There is no 7s/7s+.

It would have been a straw man argument if I’d said you’d said there would be code to support the 8 in iOS 10 and then come up with something to counter the argument you didn’t make, or something similar to that. All I did in reality was counter the assertion that you did make that the 7 and 8 were similar enough that it would work fine, and that’s just called debating.

I agree with eyoungren. iOS 11 is sure to have the drivers necessary to run with the new processor and video GPU. iOS 10 won't have them as the 8 didn't exist while the code was being written.

In response to the OP, I really wouldn't worry about how iOS 11 will work on the 8. Many of the "issues" with iOS 11 I've read on this forum seem to be made up/meaningless/etc.

Wait for the jailbreak. They usually have visual appearance tweaks, sometimes mimicking previous OS. I had the iOS 6 dock on my phone all throughout iOS 7-9, through a jailbreak tweak. Looked fantastic, tbh, even with the rest of the design being flat.

I seriously hope your belief that there will be an iOS 11 jailbreak is not in vain.

That said, OP wants to downgrade. Even if there is a jailbreak for the 8/8+ and even if there was a way to downgrade, it's not going to run on this phone.

As of right now though, the only downgrades out there are available only to 32-bit devices. And for a lot of it, if you don't have blobs saved you are SOL.

I haven't jailbroken since wireless updates have become a thing. That said as mentioned you won't be able to put iOS 10 on your 8
