2 Much Infinite Loops
i have partitioned my hard drive. 1 part is the el capitan partition and 1 part is the lion partition.

i do not have a problem with installing and booting el capitan.

i seem to not be able to install (and boot) lion.

(fyi, i tried installing lion first, then el capitan. also tried installing el capitan, then lion, neither worked)

imo, this should be technically possible.

anybody have any experience or tried this?

thanks.

How old is your computer? Macs will typically not boot from an operating system older than the one the shipped with. Mountain Lion was released in July 2012. If your computer shipped after that date, it will likely not run Lion, which is older.

Sometimes this scenario works better if you keep each OS on an individual -drive-, rather than on partitions on the same drive.

I'm not saying that the "partition" approach won't work for you, but if you're having trouble that way, try the "two drive" setup instead...

hi guys. thanks.

i have a late 2013 iMac.

so that would explain everything.

i have this old application that runs only with OS X Lion (and older) (which obviously i need) and was thinking of ditching the old Mac mini and partition my iMac.

interestingly, fyi, connecting the iMac to a third Mac, with target mode, i could access the OS X Lion partition and "use it".
