I'm looking for the source code or code examples for a program to identify what firewire chipset is being used in the computer, or even this is even possible. Any info would be great, thanks a bunch!

If you are going to find it anywhere it is going to be through the ioreg family, but figuring that out is going to be a nasty process to do across all hardware. But I can't think of a reason that you could possibly have to use this.

I'm actually working on a troubleshooting tool for a company, and providing the exact firewire chipset, or at least the manufacturer is very helpful information. There are obviously ways to identify it such as booting into Single User mode, but that's hardly ideal.

I'm a very novice programmer, and almost completely new to the OSX platform, so I'm not too hopeful using my own skills.
