Wondering if anyone has had luck finding an Ultimate 13 but withOUT the larger SSD...dont need that and dont want to spend the $400 necessarily. Thanks

The default config of the ultimate comes with the 256gb SSD. You do not have to upgrade it. However, the odds of finding it in an Apple store might be slim. So, you either call the stores or and hope to find one or order online.

You can not get the 13'' MBA ultimate with 128 SSD. Just tried to order it from the Online Apple Store and they don't give you the option to "downgrade" the SSD to a lower capacity one, they only offer you the option to pay more for a 512 GB one. Take it or leave it, is what Apple is telling you :D.

The only way to get the i7 is to go for the 1499 model and upgrade the i5 to the i7. The 1499 model comes with the 256GB ssd by default so you don't have to worry about that. If you want the i7 with a lower capacity ssd than this won't be possible as the 1499 model is the only one that is upgradable to the i7 but you can't downgrade the ssd from say 256 to 128GB.

Btw, I'm only speaking about the 13" model, not about all the Air models (aka both 11" and 13")!

Re-read the thread title. The OP wants the 256gb SSD. It is the 512gb SSD he does not want. It could be the stores are only stocking the Ultimate 13.

I've been told by multiple disparate Apple stores that in addition to the base models, the only BTO models carried in all stores are:

11" 2.0/8/256
13" 2.0/8/512

They said that the only stores that may have additional configurations are the flagship stores such as the 5th avenue NYC store.

So.. in particular, the 13" 2.0/8/256 is not sold in stores.
