Hi all,
I'm new as a member of the forum, but MacRumours has helped me troubleshoot many things, and I am very appreciative of this community!
I have a 17" Macbook Pro that I purchased about 4 -5 years ago. Everything still runs smoothly, and I know I can still use it for many more years. The last few days, the display has been stiff when I try to open and close it. I took it to a reseller/repair shop and they said it was likely the hinge/spring and it would cost b/w $800 - $1000 to fix it. For that price, I might as well buy a new computer, but I don't want to part ways with my current one!!! I have avoided opening and closing the display since, as the repair shop suggested. They also suggested to hook up to an external monitor, but I purchased the laptop so I could be mobile, so that won't really work.
Is there anyone out there that knows or believes there could be another way of fixing this problem for a smaller price? It's just a hinge or spring, right? Those are parts that are replaceable?
I am located in Toronto, Canada.
Thanks very much for reading.
