I haven't seen anymore discussion on this, did we ever get the 4890 flashed and working as a native card in a mac pro? I'd really like to buy one and do this, I know there is the natit fix but that is a no-go for me as I need the boot screen on my mac. I also need dual DVI ports as I have dual 23" cinemas.

Does anyone have anymore information on this? Are we making any progress on why the flash for the 4870 doesn't work with dual DVI ports on anything but the XFX card?

Thanks for everything!

4890 will likely only ever work with the natit fix since there isn't an official 4890 Mac card. Dual DVI ports currently only works on the XFX cards (1 dual link port and 1 single link port).

Thanks for the reply, so what card would you suggest right now? Has anyone tried the 512 version of the 4870 to see if it works more completely with the rom?

I'm not a huge XFX fan, I've always used Sapphire in the past and they've worked flawless in my gaming rigs.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'd suggest the XFX 1GB 4870 card. You get two dvi ports and the extra 1GB of RAM. There's also an easy to follow tutorial on how to do it.

FWIW, I just tried the Pipolomo method on an MSI 4890.

I created a ROm using the Mac EFI ROM combined with the 4890 ROM.

First I changed the device id of EFI to match 9460 .

Booted to black screen....no Windows or Mac.

Seems like it should have worked for PC at least.

Flashed back to PC ROM and all is normal.

With Netkas extensions, 4890 card works perfectly in OSX...just no boot screen.
