Just got an iPhone 3G... It's awesome...

Is it possible to get an extra real cheap junk phone on ebay or something and use that for when I go fishing and stuff? I want it to be the same number

I don't want to pay any extra money, I just want to swap sims if that is possible when I need to use the junker phone.

Not really sure how all this works, just looking for some insight.

Yes as long as the other phone is not locked. I swap my iphone sim into my blackjack just fine.

LOL, I have to have the same backup plan as I go river and pier fishing often and my pants seem to be the place to wipe my hands!

I actually just bring my old iPhone with me outdoors, or a nokia 6102, and then the iPhone 3G when im out and about!

4 more questions:

1. So any old unlocked GSM phone on ebay will do the job?

2. Is it a pain in the butt to swap the sim?

3. All I have to do is swap the sim and the other phone will immediately work?

4. Will the weekly removal of the sim from the iPhone have an adverse effects?

It can be locked to ATT (obviously). In fact, ATT go-phones work well for this purpose since you can buy the cheapest for 50ish dollars without altering your contract.
