Hello - I realize this is a bit strange question, but here it is anyway....

I am currently on an 2011 early 15 inch MBP. My daughter just handed me back a 2009 mid 15 MBP with Hi-Res screen.

Is it possible to have a knowledgeable technician to swap the screens ? I would like to have the Hi-res on my 2011.

Thanks for any info. Paul.

Not sure if the video drivers would know what to do with it. Me? I'd keep the money you'd pay the technician, sell both laptops, and get a refurbished MBP.

I swapped the top lid from the 15 2010 to the 15 2011.
I wanted the matte screen on the 2011 model.
I had to swap the wifi/bt card also.
The 2011 has 4 antennas and the 2010 has 3.
Worked great.
You will also loose the 2011 HD iSight camera, the 2009 is the standard.
Just check the ifixit guides to see if the connectors from both models match.
Or you can check it yourself by opening the bottom plate.
Another way is to order the high rez screen from laptopscreen.com
I did that because my kid managed to "break" my recently swapped screen.
The first option is the easiest to perform. It took me about 40min.

Thank you for the info. I did not consider the camera/WIFI issues....so I will not do the swap.

Paul.

If I remember right, apple changed the back cover support and lots of the wifi/cabling between 2009 and 2010. I'm pretty sure the late 2008 and mid 2009 backs are compatible (have a mid 2009 display assembly on my own late 08 computer). I think the display assemblies are interchangeable from 2010 onward (except retina), for the most part (again, wifi issues and such). As for the LCDs themselves, I think you could just buy a straight hi res lcd, take the glass off and swap the LCD panels.

I swapped the LCD itself from a regular to high res in my Mid-2010 15" cMBP before. There wasn't any problems. It was literally plug and play.
