Possible to "switch off" between 2 iphone 4s'?

I recently got another iphone 4s from a family member that wanted something different, therefore I now have 2 iphone 4s'. I wanna use the one I got just as a "backup" , ex. going fishing or working on the hard etc. Question is, Can I just pop in and out my micro sim card without causing a problem to either the sim or iphone?

The carriers would not be happy about it and it probably won't even work.

I don't see a problem with doing it. I used to do it long ago going to College and working construction during the summer. Had a rugged phone for work and a play phone.

Though the idea of having a "work" phone might be a good one, it does not seem to make sense here. They are both the same phone - 4s - right?

Why not just stick with one. If you bust it up, you then have the other.

I see many reasons to avoid this. Phone history. Loaded apps. Etc. Etc etc.

Meanwhile, did this family member have to pay to get out of their contract on the 4s?
