Hi,

i remember about 6 years ago when I got my Macbook Pro 13" Apple said max ram was 8gb but i was able to install 16gb ram.

Is there anyway to upgrade the 2015/16 Macbook 12" to 16gb RAM. I looked at 2017 macbook and it is not worth $2k upgrade as it still has 480p webcam, 5gbps instead of 10gbps, and not that much faster performance.

However, I find I need 16gb to operate my image processing apps.

It's not possible, the ram is soldered directly to the logic board.

The right question would be "is it possible to fit a logic board from a 2017 model in a 2016 chassis"?

6 years ago, Apple sold MacBooks with upgradeable RAM. They don't now. I thought that was commonly known, especially with a computer such as the 12" MacBook.

Can't it be ripped out of the logic board and new one soldered in? Assuming you know somebody with experience?
