i have a mac mini late 2009 (Macmini3,1) model # A1283
i was origionally told i most i can go is 4gb of ram.
when i bought the mac it had 2gb so i went to frys and get 2 2gb sticks of ram

here is the info on the ram. both are the same (cant remember manuf name)

Size: 2 GB
Type: DDR3
Speed: 1067 MHz
Manufacturer: 0x8502
Part Number: 0x505344333247313036363253000000000000
Serial Number: 0x00000000

anywho frys also told me that i cant go above 4gb of ram apparently it wasnt possible.

today i got a program called macTracker which is on the app store. it shows all the macs that ever existed etc.

it says that the Macmini3,1 has a maximum capability of running of 8gb of ram but can only support up to 4gb of ram using apple ram.
before i go out and get the ram what im wondering if any of you have tried putting 8gb of ram on a Macmini3,1 (late 2009)

thanks

Yep, my 2009 Mac Mini works great with 8Gb RAM. Apple released an EFI update early 2010 that enabled 8Gb RAM on the 2009 Mini.

This works great - No need for Apple branded memory.

I tried it with Crucial memory (in late 2009 mini) and it was a no go. I tried everything and the best the mini would do is 6GB, in an unmatched pair. But mine might be defective. Your results could be better.

Fortunately I have a MacBook Pro so I put the new memory in it instead.

I'm pretty sure only the early 2009 Mini needs an EFI firmware update (the late 09 Mini shipped with EFI firmware that supports 8GB RAM). See http://support.apple.com/kb/DL888

The EFI firmware update should've been installed via Software Update long ago.
