Possible to use internal HDD in dual drive iMac for Time Machine backup?

Yea, so I'm just curious if one were to BTO an SSD + HDD drive configuration from Apple, could the 1TB or 2TB HDD be used strictly as internal Time Machine disk? Also, has anyone tried to do this?

I know the idea may seem questionable as your backup would be locked up internally but I'm just curious.
