Yes. You need to buy the required adapter to connect to the right port on your monitor. I am assuming your monitor has DVI on it. You need to buy the Mini Display Port to DVI adapter from either the Apple Store or another reseller. The adapter converts Apple's Mini Display Port to the DVI cable that should've come with your monitor.

i believe it has dual link dvi ..
damn that cable is expensive lol .. plus the reviews for it are kinda horrible:confused:

dunno if its worth it to do now .. i would need a keyboard and mouse .. so expensive .. maybe i can just edit on this 17 inch screen and rough it out till next year when i get my mac pro:(

Remember that you need that same cable for Mac Pro as well... Unless you get a new monitor

yea i know .. i will definitely be picking up a new monitor .. possibly downsizing to 2 x 24s or maybe 1 x 30 if apple every updates it
this dell monitor is a few years old but it serves it purpose and i dont think i could use anything smaller .. but im really tired of my pc
and never turn it on anymore so the monitor doesnt get much use

See if monoprice has the cable, if they do it will be WAY less than anything Apple has.
