I receive text messages from a number that always starts with the first 7 digits. The last 2 vary. Is there any way to have a contact take up phone numbers such as 555-555-55** so that I can make a special ringtone?

1) Create new contact name.

2) Enter a hundred numbers ranging from 555-555-5500 - 555-555-5599

3) Assign ringtone.

I know this is a lot of work but it works!
Copy & paste and you should be done in 2 minutes or so. ;)

I would do this, but then block the contact so you don't ever get the call or message. Go to settings, messages, blocked, Add New to set up.

Why would you block the contact? I assumed the OP wanted to assign a ringtone for these numbers so he would know. I actually did this to my Facebook text alert with numbers ranging from 32651-00 to 32651-99. SMS Facebook notifications works great when you're out of data coverage. ;)

I was assuming they were spam messages.

No, I actually need to get these alerts.
Was trying to stay away from the 00-99 manual piece :)

Thanks

I found a way to (somewhat) do this. I exported the vcard and opened it in textedit. I took a sample of the phone number statement and used excel to make a long list of the same number incrementing by one - then pasted it back into the vcard from textedit.
So, while its not a wildcard, its got each possible iteration hardcoded now....which works for me
