I use color labels in finder so that I can quickly tell which documents were edited or changed.

Does anyone know... if I do a clean install of the OS, after backing up the documents with the color labels, and move the documents back into finder on the newly-installed OS, will the color labels disappear?

Not 100% sure, but the labels should stay intact. I've copied files off CDs and flash drives that have color labels, and the colors stay after moving the files to a new drive.
