Post here if you ordered a 17" MBP Penryn hi-res GLOSSY

How come you got so much info right from the off at China?! Any Europeans getting similar detail?

Mine shipped on the 5th (allegedly), that's last Wednesday, and all I see on the tracking page is:

Current Delivery Status: In Transit to Customer - Shipment Delayed 10 Mar 2008

Damn this is infuriating! How much more can I take this?! :p

Please post in this thread once you get it, I want to hear your impression of the 17" GLOSSY HR screen!!!

Well, I just got charged for my Macbook Pro after a little debit card debacle. I'm hoping that's a good sign that it's going to ship soon after 2 weeks of "Not yet shipped."

Mine got charged yesterday... the same day I got a mail saying that because of "unexpected reasons" it won't ship before April 2... And I ordered mine the MORNING they came out (maybe 3h after the Store came back online...)


Seriously considering a Matte... any thoughts?

I ordered mine on the 27Feb. It is even built yet. It won't even ship until the 19th March. And it will take until the 29th to reach my parents. I'm sure Apple have invented some special type of space travel, as everything I order from them seems to arrive via Venus.

The worst part is waiting for the email saying they have shipped it. Currently the bank is saying the authorisation has been cancelled by them as Apple have not collected the funds authorised after 5 days. Apple claims everything is okay and the machine is being built. On the 19th, they will attempt to get payment. This is where I will receive an email saying it was shipped, or the order has been cancelled and some lucky person is going to be getting a 17" 2.6Ghz Hi-Def Glossy maxed out for a considerable discount on the refurb store.

I've phoned the bank, and they can't even tell me if the money will be allowed to be moved to Apples account. I've phoned Apple and they are adamant that the funds should be moved. I'm 100% confident that neither company knows what is going on and are just hoping for the best. When this occurs you realise just how crap internet shopping is.

i have the same situation and i looked at my online credit card info and don't see a pending auth for the correct amount. are you worried that they won't try to charge again when they are ready to ship? is this something i should be worried about?

anyone else?
 
Mine is maxed out, costing around $3700 (with Applecare and some programs preinstalled) and yesterday I received an e-mail saying there was a problem with Apple trying to bill from my debit card. There's a $3000 daily limit on my debit card and anymore requires a phone authorization from the bank, where they would temporarily increase the limit. It's finally charged... somewhat... My bank says it's pending.

I ordered mine on the 26th around 10:30am PST and it still hasn't moved. The expected ship date is the 18th, delivery on the 21st. My second option was a maxed out Sony Vaio AR series. Coincidently, a maxed out version of that would ship on the 18th as well. Maybe there's a shortage of 17" hi-res LED-backlit screens.
 
My card had an authorization put on it finally, no update from Apple. I'm considering cancelling and reordering the Matte screen if it is delayed even more as some have suggested.

Anyone else thinking of going Matte now?

I am! But the issue boils down to the fact that the Hi-Res Mattes still take 7-10 business days... plus shipping... I'm guessing it won't come much earlier than the glossy... :/


Tough choice.. And it has got me wondering Glossy vs Matte ALL OVER AGAIN :| eeeeeeeek

Didn't want to do anything that'd risk slowing down delivery. I'm convinced any change/new order would arrive after the original would arrive anyway!

I think I read somewhere in the forums that if you change from glossy to matte, the wait starts all over again. But then again, you'd probably it the matte before the glossy starts to ship anytime soon. At least people already have mattes, so you know they have them and they have shipped, as opposed to the glossy which I don't think anyone has, except for Steve Jobs.

You mean ordered 26th, day of the refresh/spec bump? Must've been late in the day to get such a long lead time quoted. I can only image they had a bit of a deluge of glossy orders all in one day.

Not that that cheers us up any :eek: lol

You bought it 3 days before it was announced? Sure you don't mean your ordered March 3rd?

It looks they are just taking order date and adding 21 days (so much for "2-3 weeks"). So we will see on the 18th if anyones is shipping. I do wish I had ordered matte now....oh well.
 
i neither have a 17 in mbp or a even a glossy mbp, but i post here in defiance of your wishes 'shreddy'!

OK! I changed the order!
From the initial April 2 shipping/April 8 delivery I'm down to March 21-26 shipping/March 25-31 delivery! They upgraded me to 2-3 day shipping (free) and I chose not to add the pre-installed iWork '08! (I'll get it later)

I'm hoping for the shorter end of things, I really am! But even if it comes on the 31st it's over a week earlier than the glossy... and besides I'm starting to lean over Matte instead of Glossy (this boils down to a matter of taste!).

While we wait, I highly recommend you guys reading Shawn Blanc's review of the new MBPs... He's really good at reviewing! ;)

johnellisdm. I'm worried what has happened. Apple will try and take the funds on the 19th. I will still be in the country when that happens. If they don't ship until say the 22nd, I'm screwed. I will on that day be moving from Brussels back to the UK. In my case there is no problem with a limit cap. In your case, either the bank or Apple will phone you stating they have a problem and need your permission to move the funds if it goes over a certain limit.
 
I ordered the 17" 2.6 Glossy Hi-Res on the day they came out and I have had it in my hands for a week now. Sorry to hear that some of them are taking longer than others. Machine is great, BTW. Penryn runs so cool vs. my older Core Duo MAcbook (Black) -- I can actually use this thing on my lap again.

Are you the first to report receiving a 17" glossy?? :eek:

And had it for a whole week already?! Maybe you live near the factory any snuck one out? ;) One thing's for sure, you aren't in Europe are you?!
