I've always had black iPhones until the 5 and I'm so glad I made the switch. IMO the white iphone just looks so polished and high quality, I love it! And don't think I will switch to black again.
Scuffs aside, the whole black slab monlolith look from the movie 2001 is just much more appealing to me. Not and never have been a big fan of white (phones, or otherwise).
Sure, it scratches easily, but oh well. If I could've been bothered, I may have switched to white, but TBH it's too much hassle for something I'm only going to keep for 2 years.
Anyway, I got it replaced as the lock button was faulty in March and I've kept this one pretty much scratch-free, so I'm pretty happy about that.
Bought the black, loved it, but with all the scuffgate my love for it has gone. I wished I would have gone with the white, then I wouldn't worry about the scuffing anymore.
Even with a lot of care, no drops, etc, it's scuffing on the chamfered edge and nearby, so it sucks.
Its funny that I came across this thread, as this week i was considering to make the switch to white, when I return my fawlty iPhone for a replacement. I have always owned black since the 3G and was tempted to make the change. However I have decided to stay black for these reasons:
1. There is a better monolithic look with the black model which makes the screens bazel seemingly borderless much like my sony TV.
2. The older apps that use letter box adapt well to the black background.
3. The front sensor is hidden.
4. I believe the black iPhone's two tone colour works better than silver on white.
5. The silver diamond edge on the white iphone may be too reflective in the sun.
6. The front of the white iPhone is just too plain for my taste.
I had a white iPad 2 as my "dip the toe in the water" white device, and I will never do it again. White bezel is distracting, especially in the dark. When I would read an ebook at night I was constantly aware of the bezel on my iPad, and it annoyed the hell out of me. I bought a Nexus 7 shortly afterward and gave the iPad to my mom (her first Apple device) and never looked back. I have a black iPad 4 now (or new new iPad I guess it's called, who knows anymore) and though I do think that the white devices have a nice look to them I would never buy another one.
I bought black and I'm sticking to it. Looks more sleek and much more better looking than the white. I never liked any of the white apple products. I'm happy with my phone. Don't have a scratch on it and I keep it protected with a case so I don't have to worry about accidental drops scratching the body of the phone. Even with future apple iPhone purchases, I'm gonna always stick to black.
