hi guys.

im looking for a way to have post-it-like things on my desktop that will not dissapear when I engage expose to show the desktop. any ideas?

thanks

Wait, what about Stickies the app? Like in your Application folder? Not the widget. Would that work?

One thing that works, but it's a hassle:

  • Find a desktop pic you like, save it somewhere.
  • Open Stickies, add/edit notes
  • In Dock Preferences, hide the Dock
  • Open the desktop pick in QuickTime, set it to "Loop", go Full Screen.
  • Apple-Tab to put Stickies on top.
  • Take a screenshot.
  • Set that as your desktop.
  • Turn Dock Hiding back to where you had it, if you keep it visible.
You'll need to repeat whenever you change notes. But this will survive Exposé.

LOL - man that is creative.

is there really no way for something (im talking in general now) to be glued to the desktop? it seems like that would be a very useful feature, especially in expose.

harumph.

put your dashboard in developer mode, it will let you drag widgets to your desktop. just use the sticky widget, it wont move with expose'

but it will aslo stay on top of all your windows no matter what!

This thread is two years old, but I just figured out how to keep stickies glued to the desktop. They will not cover other windows even when clicked on, and will not move with Expose.

I am using Stickies, and a program called Afloat.
Afloat is a program that allows you to manipulate windows (transparency, resizing, etc.) Not to turn this into an ad for Afloat, but since switching from PC to Mac (and a smaller screen) it's the best thing I've found for easily manipulating windows, especially when a lot of them are open. Unfortunately, Afloat is only written for cloud programs, but hey, I still love it!

After installing Afloat, go to Stickies, select the target post-it. Select "Adjust effects" from the "Windows" menu. Another menu will pop up. Next to "Keep this window:" select "Pinned to desktop." Voila.
