Figured this would be a good place to ask a quick question. I can't seem to figure this out. I open my camera, swipe to "portrait," scroll over to "stage light mono" and the screen turns black and white. But... When I take the picture it's in color. What am I doing wrong???

You need to ensure the ring in which your subject is located lights up yellow first.

As an amateur photographer - I can assure you you'll get the hang of it. I'd recommend getting a book, if you're interested. Tony Northrup has an ebook called "how to create stunning digital photography" which will help immensely, you can get it on Amazon.

Also, it's pretty safe to say these folks take multiple photos and post the best one.

As an amateur photographer - I can assure you you'll get the hang of it. I'd recommend getting a book, if you're interested. Tony Northrup has an ebook called "how to create stunning digital photography" which will help immensely, you can get it on Amazon.

Yeah last year I got myself a Sony mirrorless camera with a proper lens, and when I travel I nearly always have it on me to take stunning shots. Up until this point I've been using a iPhone 6S Plus for those instances when I don't have my camera....so the 8 Plus will be even better.
