I am having trouble with some words with Siri, specifically two that for me are common ones that should be understood!

  1. Mate - Detects as "Might" or something similar.
  2. Name - No matter how I say it, Siri keeps detecting it as Nine! WTF?
What words does it not recognise for you?

UK English here, with a London accent.

Please post where you are from, and what accent.

For me it got my friend's name "Regina" as "Vagina". It's lead to a few strange messages before it was corrected. It must not like the western Pennsylvania pronunciation of her name.

No matter what I do I can't get it to recognise "who". It's interpreted as "call" every time.

UK English. I have a Welsh accent.

iPhone 4s --> iPhone 4 ass

Not exactly the best association. And I take care to pronounce it "ess"

Odd quirk with Siri: she never once has understood a command for me that is previously known to her if you precede the statement with "please".

like:
"Tell me a story" - responds appropriately.

"Please tell me a story" or "Tell me a story please" = "I don't understand."

Siri is such a typical woman. Says she wants to be treated with manners and only responds to the bad boy. :p

Not Siri per say, but dictation...Prune juice = cream cheese.

This caused some hilarious iMessages with my wife at the grocery store.

"I Owe" becomes iPhone. To be honest it gets quite a few things i say wrong. If i dictate a 20 word text message to it, i'd say atleast one word is wrong a good 50% of the time, even if i try to speak clearly. If i speak normally probably 1/15 of the words i say are wrong every time.

UK English.. not really got much of an accent.

I expected that, though. This is Apples first real try at proper voice implementation, and considering that it's pretty great. There have been instances when it had really impressed me. I remember getting about 3 text messages from different people all within the course of a minute. I ended up sending 2 or 3 texts to each contact over the next few minutes as each one replied, and for whatever reason but at that time Siri never missed a beat, it dictated what i said into text perfectly. Keeping up with 3 conversations by typing would have been a lot of effort, Siri made it seamless and easy.

A year or two down the line, using an IP5 or IP5S on iOS6/7, i'd expect Siri to be much improved and be doing some pretty phenomenal things. I can't wait to see how it improves, i just hope Apple pays as much attention to the rest of the world as it does with the US with it's Siri implementation.
