I've largely given up on external hard drives. Just have one 1TB external SSD for all my music library, that's it. Other than that, internal hard drives in my PC back home in RAID0 and RAID1 configurations. I need none of that here in college but it's all there back home for when I need it.

Which one do you own? Just in case my MBP has to take a Genius Bar trip or something I plan on getting an external SSD to spare. Especially since I don’t prefer doing iCloud it costs too much even I store so much on my Mac

Are these Great for Time Machine? I heard a few LaCie ones that  recommends but Mac users said they fail after a long time

Have been using a Seagate Hard Drive for the last 5 years for Time Machine. Works well. There are user reviews online that do say that the drives fail after some time but for me, nothing bad has happened to my Seagate drives till now.

I built it out of an internal SSD plus an enclosure. Way cheaper than buying stock and works perfectly fine. Sure it feels cheap to handle because the enclosure cost $15 on Amazon but it works very well. It also ain’t the fastest thing in the world especially for an SSD, but again, it’s just housing my music library.
