Post your list of places that take NFC here because the list on Apple's website is .... Incomplete and only lists merchants that paid Apple for the "increased advertising" of their business.

Let's see on a day to day basis, most places I go to, I will be able to shop with my iPhone 6.

Places that I've tested my PayPass card: you will be able to use ApplePay at these places because they take PayPass

Gas up
Chevron
Circle K
Shell Gas Stations
Mobil (if you have these in your area)
Texaco

Convenience store and drug
Walgreens
CVS

Groceries
Basha's (Arizona only chain)
Whole Foods
fry's/Kroger

other stuff
mcDs
Carl's Jr.
Panera
Jamba Juice (AZ??)
Big O Tires (car repair)
The Home Depot
Sports Authority
Staples
Petco
Target
Some Walmarts that have new terminals and shows four green circles on the screen.
Verizon store
T-mobile store
AT&T store
Vending machines that take credit cards

These are only some of the places I can think of. But it looks like I will literally be able to pay with Apple Pay at *most* places that I shop. Honestly I don't think it'll be a problem for most people to find a place that'll take it.

The problem is that most of these stores I go to, don't even advertise they take it. The Verifone terminal at Bashas for example don't mention NFC at all, not even the contactless logo. It just shows four green circles on the screen along with the "slide card" message. I tapped my PayPass card anyway and it worked.

Another trick I recommend to people is they get the "MasterCard Nearby" app, this app will show people where they can pay with Apple Pay, because it shows all of the merchants that take PayPass.

Just because Walmart isn't on the list doesn't mean your ApplePay adventure is over. There's plenty of places that'll take it, you just have to have an eye for it. Places don't even admit to taking it.

If anyone has more to add to the list please do. Local places count!

Will Apple Pay work at places that have NFC ? I thought the store had to accept Apple Pay specifically - not just NFC

Just NFC.

Apple transmits a token that looks like a VISA number.
NFC terminal receives it, passes it to VISA to be authorized.
VISA see's that it has a match in their Token Service, matches it to you.
Sends approval to the store.

HEB in Texas

HEB in Texas has NFC Paypass too.. It's like a much better version of walmart and safeway

Target is a mobile partner, not an in store one right now.

It would be great for it to be otherwise, but not right now at the moment.... So please send feedback to them about it.

And this is one area I'd love to be surprised about and end up being wrong, and I'd love my red card to be in my phone too.

we need some pictures of the readers so that people know what to look for. many big shops (Staple, Home Depot) that I went to gave me a weird look when I tried to use my chip card. They acted like swiping is the only standard.

amazingly only Walmart employees know about card with chip.

That is because Walmart is the only store right now with it turned on (a long with a small plethora of mom and pop stores). Home Depot is supposed to have them all on by the end of this year, Target beginning of 2015, and god knows about Staples.

Such a shame being that Target is such a great Apple partner and user. Their new gift registry kiosks are iPads, they are issuing iPod touches to every employee...aherm...team member, and they are replacing price scanners with iPads. Come on Target just one more peice of the puzzle to activate, considering they have the new readers but right now with only the ability to accept traditional credit cards turned on.

I'm guessing Target does not want to lose the tracking ability.

MasterCard paypass finder: http://www.mastercard.us/cardholder-services/paypass-locator.html

Didn't uickly find similar for visa or Amex...

Thankfully the places that'll take MasterCard will take the other cards and Apple Pay just fine. Just get the app MasterCard Nearby.

I'm in Pennsylvania and any WaWa convenience store and gas station I've been into has these NFC readers. I think the gas pumps do too. I'm not sure.

They are very common in Canada. Started using my NFC enabled card about 2 years age. More and more places have the NFC readers now.

Crazy, huh? I tried using my chip+pin card in Home Depot and CVS and it didn't work either place.. I guess they have the terminals but haven't flipped the switch yet?

Ah well, we'll have NFC everywhere within a year.
