RACING NERD!!! :D

Looks fun! How much did the chairs run?

<]=)

I got them on Amazon... (search Playseats)
They normally run $300 each, occasionally going to $200 on sale. I caught them one Sunday afternoon for $150 each with $60 Amazon gift card if purchased with a driving game. I found a couple of $20 driving games for PS2, so in a way I only paid $110 each for them. The wheel sets are Logitech Driving Force Pros, and they cost $100 each. So, all in all about $500 for the whole setup.
I wasn't going to pay full price for the seats, but when they went on sale I couldn't resist. They are actually really good quality. Steel frame, spring construction, foam padding and GENUINE artificial leather. :)

Blah, we don't have basements here in southern CA, I'm jealous. :(

I have never understood why CA doesn't build basements. You guys are paying ridiculous prices for land, so why don't you get the most square footage for your house on the same piece of property? If you are building the house already, the only additional cost is a bit of backhoe work and some concrete. Is it because of earthquakes or something to do with the makeup of the soil? I watch shows on TV like flip this house or whatever, and it shows them buying a piece of sh** house that is like 1200 sq. ft. or something for $300,000 or something crazy like that. If it had a basement, effectively doubling the footage, it wouldn't be so bad of a price. Still about 2 or 3 times what it would cost here, but that is beside the point.

So, why don't home builders in CA put basements in their house?

Fascinating article. Thanks!

I would like to put a home arcade into a basement....along with a home theater, like mentioned in that article....

I couldn't believe how much the article said it cost to build a basement there. Here it costs about $100/square foot for the entire house, with the basement not being included in the footage. In other words, a 2000 sq. ft. house would cost about $200,000 to build, but the basement would add another 2000 sq. ft. To nicely finish the basement and nicely equip the main floor you might add another $100k, so for $300,000 you can really end up with 4,000 sq.ft.

I too would like to have a full on home theater and arcade in my basement, but my ceiling is only about 6 foot 4 inches tall. Tall enough to walk around, but not high enough to install a nice drop ceiling to cover up ductwork and plumbing. I will just have to make do with what I have until I can get a nicer house with a better basement.
