I'm vaguely familiar with AppleTalk, and how Macs could borrow system resources from each other.

Is there anything like this that Open CL could be used for? Like an extra computer just sitting around?

It's really more about using the raw power of a graphics card to crunch through stuff instead of using other machines.

I'd disagree with slpLoad - yes, individual machines can work by themself, but through XGrid etc, it's a potent tool to create dynamic clusters of computational power to do work on, if you have the right kit.

I know Server can pool resources, and I think you can set up an XGrid by commandline/tool for non-server versions for using other Macs' resources.
