Just investigating the possibility to upgrade my current 5,1 machine.

Problem: my local storage runs at 300-350 MB/s. My networked storage at 800 MB/s so my local storage can't keep up.

At the moment: 5x 2TB Disk with Areca 1222 raid card and Maxupgrades caddies.

Was wondering if I could design a caddy that takes two ssd's that both connect to a raid card. (Like the maxupgrades I have now) I would have to split the power form one sata power plug to power 2 ssd's. I think I could do this. Just wondering if this is a smart idea because of possible power limitations?

Any ideas?

Shouldn't be any problem splitting a SATA power connector to power two SSDs. SSDs use less power than equivalent mechanical drives anyway.
