So they explain that they ship the watches without power adapters, but they include them in the Hermès / Titanium editions? Why not with the Stainless Steel ones? Or why do they state it like every watch will be shipped without a charger? It feels a bit inconsistent...

For higher end models the environmental impact is offset by the higher price.

It’s absolute BS – cost savings / profiteering dressed up as an environmental benefit.

Imagine producing a device that won’t even get through a day (with sleep monitoring too) and not providing a charger with it.

Ridiculous!

I imagine it’s because there are so few sold that it makes sense to include it with a higher cost device.
That way 1) people don’t feel ripped off by spending at least double the cost of a regular Apple Watch, and 2) less high end watches sold = less chargers shipped.

As someone who bought a titanium I don’t really care about the charger, I end up donating them usually, so whether it’s there or not doesn’t affect me.
Personally I wish I could not include a band. Six years in I have enough bands, just sell me the watch itself.

Agree 100%.

Good. They’re not necessary to include any more. Plenty of Apple users have these in our households. You don’t need an adapter every time we buy an Apple Watch, if your first time user, I’m sure you probably have access to one or even a third-party adapter in your house.

but I agree with another member, the fact they are included with the more ‘premium models‘, probably should be, especially given what we’re paying, in the sense of ‘Getting your values worth’.

I would love to see a sales breakdown by model %.

Not true in the UK though. The power adapter is unique to the Watch, although it can now at least be purchased separately (for £30!).

How much do you figure those little 5W bricks cost to produce?

Now contrast that to inflation / Consumer Price Index of what $400 a year ago is "worth" today. Or go two years back since the watch prices have remained the same despite offering more features. https://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

Run the numbers and get back to us with just how much profiteering you figure is occurring.

I have no interest in wasting my time doing that.

Apple sell more Apple Watches globally per year than the entire Swiss watch industry sell of their products, so any saving is worth it to then.

I’m also not interested in any justification because as I’ve said in other threads this is not a debate that will change anybody’s mind. From what I’ve observed, you’re either totally with Apple that this is an environmental decision or you’re with me and others that this is simply to save money.

Translation: I can’t be bothered to back up my claim with data or evidence.

Good day.

There is no need to be sarcastic about it. I gave you evidence with the Swiss watch industry comparison if you don’t accept that, that’s up to you, let’s keep things civil shall we.

i’ve seen enough of the so-called “debate“ on this particular subject to know that you will not change your opinion and I will not change mine, so what is the point in continuing?

As a long-standing forum member, this is not the normal approach I take on this forum, because a forum is usually all about debate but on this particular topic, I feel it is pointless, can we just leave it at that please.

On ATP podcast Marco Arment said Apple should have lowered the price of the Watch to account for this. Of course Apple would never do that because then people would really see how big the mark-up is on accessories. You lowered the price of the Watch by $5 but you’re selling the accessory for $20? And of course Apple could claim the series 6 cost more to make so they removed the power adapter instead of raising the price of the Watch.
