I want to get a third party monitor for my soon to be delivered mac pro. I remember on my old studio display, there was only one main cord into the computer, and you could turn the system on directly from the monitor. Is this like this on the newer cinema displays as well? If I bought a Dell or Sony 23" instead of the ACD...I take it I couldn't have this functionality?

The new displays have this same feature to an extent. Instead of one cable that does everything, it has one cable that splits at the end for power, video, USB, and FireWire. Dell displays do not have this feature.

EDIT: And yes, you can set the ACD's power button to control the power state of the computer.
